Boys are rarely told that their virginity is a gift, or indeed that their sexuality is about “giving” something to another person – lightly or not. Boys “get laid”, “get lucky”, “get some”. They “take a girl’s virginity”, “take advantage”; if they’re thoughtful, they “take their time”. Boys are not taught to think of themselves or their virginity as something to be offered up, unwrapped and enjoyed.

Amazon kindly reminding us that while men put their heads into business and politics, women sit at home baking and looking at cute animals.

Major fail. I relate to the “For Him” list way more than the “For Her” list. Business, political, and science fiction books are my besties. Oh, and I <3 comics.

    1. Dude: I want to know if a woman owes me something.
    2. Guide: Well, did you enter into a loan contract with a woman, providing her with goods or money that has not yet been returned?
    3. Dude: No.
    4. Guide: Hmm. Well, do you have some other contractual agreement to provide goods or services in exchange for a compensation that has not yet been made?
    5. Dude: No.
    6. Guide: It doesn't sound like a woman owes you something.
    7. Dude: What if I sent her a private message on this web forum we both post at.
    8. Guide: Ah. She doesn't owe you shit.
    9. Dude: Well, what if I sent her a message on a dating site. That's just be rude to ignore.
    10. Guide: She doesn't owe you shit.
    11. Dude: Isn't it just common courtesy to write a detailed explanation of why she won't respond favorably to me after I've messaged her five times?

Nashua South freshman wins $25,000, America’s Top Young Scientist award

Deepika Kurup, a freshman at Nashua High School South, has won first prize of $25,000 in the 14th annual Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge for a method of purifying water with solar power.
Kurup’s invention uses two chemicals – titanium oxide and zinc oxide – which, when hit by sunlight, undergo a chemical change producing hydroxyl radicals that can attack and destroy certain types of bacteria.
She tested them in various translucent containers heating by parabolic reflectors and found that they reduced populations of various bacteria by large amounts.
Kurup competed alongside nine finalists Tuesday in a live competition at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minn.
She was awarded the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist,” $25,000 and a trip from Discovery Student Adventures.
In addition to presenting their prototypes, the 10 finalists competed in two additional challenges in which they were asked to combine multiple 3M technologies to yield new solutions and build a machine designed to turn on a light bulb using science and engineering principles.
Finalists were evaluated on their scientific knowledge, creativity and use of 3M technology

A 12-year-old schoolgirl has been accepted into Mensa after discovering she is brainier than both Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.
Olivia Manning, from Liverpool, managed to get a whopping score in an IQ test of 162 - well above the 100 average.
Her score is not only two points better than genius German physicist Einstein and Professor Stephen Hawking, but puts her in the top one per cent of intelligent people in the world.

Fuck yeah, smart girls! IQ clearly is not the only measure of intelligence, but it is great to see a young girl recognized and celebrated for her intelligence.

  13. It is disgusting. We are told to love sex but never masturbate or fool around. To love our bodies but we have to be hairless, thin, have boobs, and to never wear make up to cover our flaws. We can like sports and watch them but we can’t play them unless they are toned down and pretty enough to be oggled at. We can be nerds but we can’t be TOO smart or we forget our place. We are told we need a prince charming and to seek him out by constantly changing ourselves and being perfect for him. We are given the message that outside beauty is what matters the most but if we have it and get successful it was because we have a pretty face. We are told we exaggerate and should just go with it when we complain of being objects and property. We are taught that being a woman is worthy of an insult… WE have to fear walking at night. WE have to go in a group if we need to use the bathroo
